Small seeds with big advantages:Millet is a staple food that is usually grown for local consumption. It is a cereal crop and has a protein content of about 10% and 2-5% fat. Millet is highly nutritious and can be cooked like rice or ground to make porridge or flour, for example. To show some appreciation to this crop, the United Nations declared 2023 as the international year of Millet.
Millet is a drought tolerant crop and has a high resistance to pests and diseases. Further the crop provides high nutritional value and health benefits (e.g. reducing blood pressure, risk of heart disease, cholesterol).
